  • “George Washington Slept here”

Photo by Chris Duffy . . . click on picture, then the F11 key, to see a larger image.

At least that’s what the sign said.  This is Rogers Tavern in Perryville, Maryland.  I love old stone buildings, and this one has been nicely restored.

Alice and I are having a great time on vacation and have taken many many pictures so far.  I’m sure you’ll see plenty of them . . possibly to the point of nauseousness.

  • …so surprised and happy to “hear” from you! Didn’t think you or Alice would be posting while on holiday.
…do you suppose the blanked out window is where “the George” slept? Noticed the differing stone work around and above the door. Indicates area of restoration or changes in the structure. Any info on such?
…keeping my eyes wide opened and ears alert for any more “motoring trip” updates.    MuSe

  • Have you ever wondered why historians who track the sleeping patterns of noteworthy people never say anything about the food. If it were may tavern I would sure want my sign to read “George Washington slept and ate here”. (perhaps not in that order) I would then conclude the food was probably pretty good! Go figure…. Rick

  • That is a beautiful building. Up here in western Canada you can’t find that kind of architecture. It seems we were all wood, wood, wood, can’t even find to much brick.

  • We love old stone buildings like this one. Oh, and isn’t it nice to have a laptop/powerbook and digital camera? If we are only going to Dallas I don’t take mine, all family for two days.

  • Well, George, we mostly brought the computer along so we could empty out our digital cameras each evening.  Otherwise we’d be severly limited on the number of pictures we could take.  And that would be TERRIBLE!!
