  • The Splint Came Off Today

As some of you may know I fell some time ago and tore the tendon in my ring finger on my right hand.  The doctor put a splint on it eight long weeks ago to see if we could avoid surgery, and it looks like it may have been successful.  We'll know after two days if it is or not, but it's looking good.  Supposedly, if the digit is going to droop it would be within the first two days and probably within the first 6 to 9 hours.  It's been 6 1/2 hours already and still no droopy digit.  YEAH!  I still have to wear the splint to bed each night, but don't have to wear it in the daytime any more unless it starts drooping again.  If the next two weeks go well, I'll then start exercises to gain flexibility in that knuckle again.

  • A Misty Morning . . .

Well, the conditions were just right this morning AND I had my camera with me.  It was relatively mild yesterday and this morning it was cold and damp.  Just right for creating mist off water.  About a month ago the conditions were just right and I didn't have my camera with me and I've been waiting ever since for another misty morning over the waters to happen.

Here's a couple of the pictures I took this morning on my way to work, and still managed to get there before 8:00 AM.  Which was no small feat, because there was no place to pull over or park so I had to go to the next parking lot, park and walk back 2 blocks to the shots I wanted to take. I'm glad I did.

I travel through a little bit of "country" going from my home to the office, even though it's only a little over 4 miles.  Not REALLY country though . . . see the apartments on the far bank?

This was looking back the other direction, at the sunrise in the East.  I thought the heavy ground fog was lovely.  It really is worth the effort to click on the pictures, then the F11 key to see a larger image.

  • Candy Days 2002

Well, this was the week end for our family's Candy Days this year.  My sister, my mother and I had a wonderful time and made a ton of candy as well.  My niece couldn't make it this year; we wondered if she just couldn't face dipping another pretzel.

The dining room was the storing place for the finished candy. . .

. . that is until we ran out of room and had to put the rest in the library around the Christmas tree.

By the end we were all dragging our tails a little bit, but all in all we had a blast.  This is when we have our "post mortem" to discuss what worked and what didn't and how we could improve the process next year. It's best to do this immediately, because the more time that passes the harder it is to remember why we wrote some of the notes that we kept scribbling on the "master" candy list all during the process.
