Anybody that's read my blogs for any length of time knows that I have a "thing" about old grave yards, and believe me, New York had them in spades. I will not get around to showing you anywhere near all of the 86 pictures I took of just grave stones. I know that's a relief to a great many of you, since your average person isn't a weirdo like me about graveyards, but I picked out a few of my favorites.

I love old graveyards. I wrote "They're so full of history" but after I wrote it, it made me break up laughing. How do you say it without it sounding like.. well "DUH!" LOL... I do enjoy looking at the markers and imagining the people when they were alive and what the people were like who loved them and chose the grave stones. I imagine what the funeral was like... what their lives were like... I find old graveyards fascinating.
These are great photos! :goodjob:
I love cemetaries as well, I think some of the new ones are quite boring because of the flat stones with nothing on the stones but "born" and "died". There is a beautiful large cemetary in Sandy Springs, a suburb of Atlanta, that has some of the most interesting monuments. It is so beautiful, I used to go there to walk during my lunch hour. Recently, I took some pictures of some local historical gravestones here in Roswell. I would love to email you my favorite of the son of the founder of this little town, but I did not see your email address on your site.
Gandywhite, I'm glad you figured out how to email me. I enjoyed looking at that grave stone you sent the picture of. Thanks.
Well, I guess we can all be a little weird about something. Lilies and Irises for me... grave yards for you. Actually, yours sounds more weird than mine :giggle:
I love cemetaries, always have. There's one just outside of Austin, Nevada that intrigues me. Someday when we're passing through on our way to or from California, I plan to stop in the graveyard and wander around looking at the headstones.
If that is weird, then let's all be weird
I like cemeteries they are quite fascinating to me.
The "best" one I ever saw was when I was visiting Poland a few years back and it was All Saints Day - visiting it at night was awesome it looked bright as day with all the votives that had been lit.
:goodjob: I love old graveyards too -- they're just fascinating. Interesting too to see where people are buried -- often the poor or other races are buried off to the side, while the rich white folks have center stage, as it were. Thanks for those great pictures!
Interesting :goodjob: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:Mom
I love to walk around graveyards, too.
Mike
How peaceful the pictures look with the headstones among the trees. My sister-in-law used to make trips to grave yards in the south when she was doing her family history. Found lots of interesting stories, when she followed the names on the stones through the records.
