And what sister trip would be complete without visiting at least one old graveyard?  This one was located a couple miles from our childhood home in Quincy, IL and amazingly enough I'd never been inside it before this trip.  It's a very hilly cemetary which overlooks the Mississippi River.  You can just barely see the river behind that white grave stone in the far right of the picture.  I'll let mom tell you the interesting story about her and her sister and the wrought iron fence that surrounds the cemetary.

RETIREMENT COUNTDOWN:   8 hours and 15 minutes

  • I can't imagine retirement and being able to just do what I would like to do though I know it can't be exactly that way.  I hope your retirement is the best, filled with fun hours and creativity.

  • Yes, unfortunately I don't believe I'll be able to do EXACTLY what I want to do, because that would require a LOT of money.  I would travel all over the world and take pictures and if money were no object I do that several times a year.  But alas . . . back to reality.

  • I'll be saying it many times, but I've got a shot that is almost identical.   I think you've got about six hours now until you retire. By the way, I'll use this space to tell you that Dave is doing fine after the knee replacement surgery, and will go home tomorrow. I tried to call Rose yesterday and she returned my call this morning.  :sunny:

  • Probably by the time you read this, you will be retired!  Do you feel any different??  No more having to get up at a certain time each weekday morning.  You will get spoiled quickly!

Your sister home from yesterday is adorable.  But would you really want to go back to those cold damp winters??

I love the Mississippi River.  La Crosse, where our oldest son lives is on the Mississippi, too, and I love the bluffs, and just the river's "mystique".

  • only about 4 more hours to go!

    Way to go, Christine!!! :goodjob:

  • As I write this comment it's about 2 and a half hours till retirement.  I'm closing down my computer so I can pack it up and ship it back to HQ.

  • It finally happened!!! :goodjob: Tomorrow I will post a blog re' the cemetry. I am too tired tonight.  :heartbeat: :heartbeat:

  • Back in Washington PA they have hilly cemetaries like this. I can't imagine how they bury on those hills. I'd lose the casket.

  • I've finally gotten around to checking Xanga sites.   I forwarded this one on to my son.  He likes old cemeteries also & spent some time in this one playing lazertag when he was in high school.
