Can you see it?
It's really hard to see, but Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal have built a nest in this bush just outside my breakfast room window. If you look in the full pane on the right side of the picture and look about 1/3 of the way down in that pane and right in the middle (left to right) you'll see the red beak of Mrs. Cardinal. I can't believe they picked this spot. Granted it's in the very narrow side yard that I hardly ever venture into, but I pass by this window a hundred times a day and I'd have thought that would make it a less desirable location. But maybe they know I'm no threat on the other side of the window.
See, here's a close up of her in her lovely nest.

I'm so glad you posted pictures of them! Too cute! They really kind of blend in with that tree. I wonder if that factored into their choice.
At one of our campus offices, a hummingbird built a nest about a foot from a second floor window. It was pretty neat having a front row seat to the entire process. It surprised me, too, that she wasn't bothered by people constantly pressing our noses against the glass watching them. I wonder how they know?
My own birds at home are not "glass savvy." They bonk into windows if I don't clip their wings, but even funnier, if we put them on one of our glass tables, they will walk sideways along the steel rod they can see below the glass. They don't stray from that rod!
I had what appeared to be a novice nest builder in a young Cardinal that built right outside a sun porch window. This allowed us a "bird's eye view(pun intended) of her as she raised her first family. She wasn't much on the nest builders list of excellence and I often wondered when the the wind blew hard if the nest would actually hold together and not spill out the eggs. But they got through and grew to be big enough to fly away!
Oh how wonderful! What a joyous thing to have outside of your window pane...I agree, they are so close, you would never think..my that is amazing.and what a view to watch them gow and live....thank you for sharing it...have a great day...Lee :sunny:
What a nice "going away present"Thanks for sharing. :goodjob::heartbeat::heartbeat:mom
That would be great to have a window to their little home. I guess the new owners will see the babies, though, not you. I sure had a hard time seeing her.
How nice to have the nest right outside your window! I guess you'll be moved before the babies get big enough to fly, but you can enjoy the progress up until that time. It sounds like your packing, selling, and fixing things is coming right along! :sunny:
I saw her when I enlarged the picture. And btw I never have to use the F11 key just click on the picture.
Thanks to your directions I was able to find her after I enlarged it. For several years cardinals made a nest in the bush just outside my bathroom window but they haven't recently. Sometimes the male would wake me up banging on that window over & over again. Probably attacking his own reflection I'm told so I put a stickers on it & he stopped. Good Luck with your move!! How exciting--a fresh start!
