  • There is a large bird bath not 50 feet from my apartment front door, but the poor birds couldn't use it because there was a hole in the middle of the bowl. Evidently some sort of shaft used to go down into the stand through the hole in the bowl, but who knows where it is or how long it's been missing.  I tried plugging the hole with sticks, but that didn't keep the water from disappearing down the hole.  So, I got the bright idea of hot-gluing one of the small river rocks I brought from my own garden over the hole.  It took three applications of the hot glue gun to do the job, mostly because by the time I ran the 50 feet from my front door with the dripping hot glue gun it was only a very warm glue gun.  But persistance pays, and I gave it a half hour to cool and filled the bowl with water and it's still there.  Now, I just hope the birds notice that there's water for them.

And here is a close up of one of my Zinnia flowers.

  • Hi Chris.  I found your site through Alice's.  Your zinnias are lovely...one of my favorite flowers.  Your apartment is adorable and it should serve you well in the interim, right?  Have a good holiday.

  • :goodjob:I'm sure the birds will appreciate your efforts. The Zinnias are one of my favorites for hot weather. Hope they start on the construction of your house soon.
