Month: June 2006

  • Alice and I are going to the theater tonight.  I'm excited.  It's been a long time since I've been to a live play, and I think I'm going to like it.

  • What a short day today was.  I got up and took my mile walk this morning and got back before it started raining.  Even though the rain meant that they didn't work on my house today, that's OK, because we really need the rain.  I did two large loads of laundry this morning (BOY do I ever miss my own washer and dryer) before Alice and I went to the movies.  We saw "The Lake House".  We both were kind of sniffling near the end, because we knew it couldn't have a happy ending, but . . . we were wrong.  I won't spoil it for you, but we were both very happy with the ending.

Then, seeing as how this is Friday we went to the gym to do our tread mill walking, stationary bicycles, weight room and finally the swimming pool.  It's sooooooo nice to hop in the pool after a hard work out.

This evening I played a game of Scrabble with mom and wonder of wonders . . . I won. It was a good game and a high scoring one, and I was behind the entire game and won it on my last play.  I played an X to make two words . . . OX and AXE and the X was doubled both ways.  I got 35 points for playing that one letter, and that won the game for me.

  • They are pouring the concrete for the stem wall even as we speak.  They started about 6:45 this AM and Alice called me about 7:00 to let me know.  I went over right away, of course!!  Then I came back over around 1:30 and took some more pictures and this one was taken about 4:45 pm.

I'll be chronicaling most of the construction on my OTHER Xanga site . . . MissChris.  I call it "MissChris's New House".  The URL is: http://www.xanga.com/MissChris    Please feel free to subscribe so you can follow the progress on my house along with me.

  • The garden club met today at the home of one of the members and this was a lily that she was in the process of planting.  I think it's beautiful, don't you?!  After touring her gardens (2 acres) we went to eat at a fabulous India Restaurant.  Spicy hot, but delicious.

I was hoping that when we got home from the garden club that I'd find that the workmen had been working on my foundation, but such was not the case.  I really don't want to tick my builder off even before he starts my house by calling him to complain every day, but my patience is wearing pretty thin.

  • They did not start on my house today, but maybe tomorrow.

  • This lovely bouquet of Gloriosa Daisies are from Alice's garden.  We had such a thunder storm Friday night that Saturday she had to cut a bunch of flowers that were all laying down in her garden.  She gave me my choice of 3 different bouquets and this is the one I chose. Wasn't that sweet of her!!

I'm excited, because work should start tomorrow on the foundation of my house.  And it's about time too. (Oh, please let it be true)

  • B - E - A - U - t i f u l !!!!

This picture is so beautiful, it makes me wish I had taken it.  It was taken by a friend of mine who recently went to Alaska to visit her sister, and took in a bunch of gorgeous scenery while there.  I was over at her house tonight because she didn't know how to crop any of her pictures.  She had Microsoft Photo Editor on her computer and didn't even know it was there.  I showed her how to do a couple things using that software, but I think she wants to buy Paint Shop Pro now that she has heard about some of the wonderful things she can do with it that she can't do with MS Photo Editor.

  • Very rewarding, yet very tiring.

Today Alice and I spent the bulk of the day at the plant sale her Garden Club was participating in.  We spent the morning setting up for the sale, and then selling plants before we switched at 10AM to work in the kitchen the rest of the day selling cold drinks, lunches, cookies and brownies. We sold a TON of cold drinks, because it was very hot in OKC today (101), but not as many lunches. For one thing, I'm told the crowd was smaller this year because of the extreme heat.  But . . . we had a good time non the less.

And here's a shot of some of the kitchen crew girls.

  • I have a Cosmos bloom!!!

One of my cosmos finally bloomed.  I went for my walk this morning and did not notice it as I left the apartment, but when I came back and approached my front door . . . VOILA!  There it was.  I have many other little buds too, so soon I should have a bunch of new color.

  • I feel like today was almost a total waste.  I planned on getting my Oklahoma driver's license today, but alas, I did NOT. I went to get my hair done at 9:00 this morning so that the picture on my driver's license would look good.  After all, they last a long time and a lot of people will see it over time, so I wanted it to look good.  But, the lady who was supposed to fix my hair was not there; she didn't come in today, so I had to reschedule for later today. . . like 1:00 pm.  As after I got done there I went to the Oklahoma Tag/License office near my apartment and waited in line.  When I finally got to the window and told the young man that I needed to get an Oklahoma driver's license, he said that since I a Texas driver's license, I could not get my Oklahoma license at that office.  I'd have to drive to Edmond, OK to take my test.

Soooooo, I drove to Edmond and went to the tag office there.  As soon as I got in line, I had the presence of mind enough to ask the other people in line if indeed I was in the line to get my driver's license.  Nope, that would be a different office, a couple blocks away.  I went to the other office and entered and hunted and hunted, but could find no signs saying where the driver's license office was.  I wandered around until I came across a live human being and asked them which way to go to get to that office.  Come to find out they moved that office and you could not enter THROUGH the building, you had to go outside and around to the back of the building to get there. . . which I did.  I took a number and sat down and waited for an hour and a half.  At 4:45 when they were 2 numbers away from calling my number, the man stood up and announced, "Folks, we're now closed.  If we haven't called your number you should try coming back on Monday".  ARRRRRRRGH!!!

But, remember I said I thought the day was ALMOST a total waste.  I got to talking to a young girl who was also waiting to get her license, and she showed me how to do several things on my new cell phone that I've been trying to figure out for over a week now.  So, that was a good thing.
