The Gillardia is Oklahoma's state flower . . . well at least ONE of them. I forget how the story goes now, but somehow we have TWO state flowers. I love this one.
And Alice tells me that Gillardia are prone to have frequent "deformed" blooms. The bee doesn't care if it's deformed or not . . . the nectar is the same.
And Alice seemed surprised the other day when she was down at my yard that I still had a Jolene Nacole lily blooming. Today it presented me with two blooms at once.
I think she said this was a Gloriosa Daisy. What ever it is, I like their bright shiney faces.I sprayed my front yard with bug killer this evening. There were tiny, minute little white flying specks and they were devouring my purple Homestead Verbena. I hope they just ate the foliage and didn't actually KILL the plants. We'll see next spring if the verbena survived. If they don't come back, then that's pretty expensive bug food.

Wow, I have lived here all my life & never knew that was a state flower.....it has very pretty colors. I always heard Mistletoe was ths state flower, which I never understood, because it doesn't look like a flower..and it's quite ugly.....
Gaillardia is the state wildflower. Mistletoe was replaced by some rose as the state flower. (I'm glad... I never like the idea of a parasite being our state flower. )
Lovely late summer flowers Chris! I cut back a lot of my plants that suffered in the heat and they are flourishing and flowering again.
I love how they used the colors of gaillardia in the painting of the state capitol dome.
All of our flowers are done, except for a couple marigolds, and two hanging baskets of coleus. Birch trees are starting to drop their leaves, and the chestnuts are falling, too----which means we don't leave any vehicles parked under the chestnut tree anymore. Don't want any dents. When they still have their thick green hulls on, they can be heavy enough to dent if they fall from the top of the tree.
White flying specks sound like white flies. Love the color of your lily!
:sunny:Beautiful blooms, Chris.thanks for posting them. the 3 buds on the hybiscus are still quite small.:love::love:
