  • Show And Tell Time

I've been puny since Monday night and today I FINALLY feel like I'm back in the human race again. I didn't want to over do it by going out shopping or anything like that, so I stayed home today and did a "crafty" project. . . I made a pot holder.

    PotHolderStep1 PotHolderStep2

I cut two 10" squares of "home spun" material. Cut six 9" squares of the same material and centered three of the 9" pieces on each of the 10" squares. Then I drew a line from corner to corner and single stitched both of them.

Then I stitched 3/8" away from the first line of stitching and kept repeating until I'd covered the entire squares, being sure to back stitch at the beginning and end of each line. Then I took a small pair of sharp scissors and sliced through the top 3 layers only. I then trimmed both squares down to neat 9" squares.

Placing the slit sides on the outside I stitched both squares together with the stitches running in opposite directions and sewed on a contrasting trim and making a hook for hanging up the potholder.

Then I washed it and dried it and VIOLA . . . it turned into a beautiful chenille pot holder. See the close up that shows the chenille like fuzzy surface. It was fun, but it took me 5 hours.

  • So glad you are feeling better - what a neat project.

    I've been working on a cross-stitch today.

My throat and ears are hurting tonight, so I'm going to have a bath and put myself to bed now that the kids are in bed.

  • I'm sure glad you are feeling better, Chris. I love the pot holder. And in brighter colors, they will be wonderful.

  • At least you weren't just hanging out doing nothing. You were very creative. I'll have to try that sometime. Right now am cutting out quilt blocks but very slowly as my fibromyalgia is acting up in back and hips.

  • What a fun project.  Had never heard of doing this before!  Now you need a matching one for when you need two hands to take something out of the oven!!

  • I need some more pot holders (you should think of selling those  ) I have a ton of fabric, I'll have to give your pattern a try.

  • I might have known it wouldn't be an ordinary  pot holder!!Glad you are among  the "living" again. :applause::love::love::love:Mom
