This is a picture that I did for this week's Digital Nuts exercise.

I got a lot done in the yard today. I have three small yellow rose bushes that were surrounded with Purple Homestead Verbena. Today I pulled out all the Verbena around those rose bushes because it was growing too tall and smothering the roses. I hope they can "breathe" now, because lots of the branches were bare. They need to fill out with lots of new leaves.

We had a break yesterday from the extreme heat, but . . . it's back!

  • Hostas

Oh my. On my recent blog about what was blooming in my yard at the time . . . I completely overlooked the hostas on the north side of my house. How did I manage that?

  •  Cosmos12

It's been pretty hot here in Oklahoma . . . yesterday it got up to 105. We really could use some rain.  The day lily season is now winding down, but I do still have a few things blooming, only about a fourth of which are day lilies.  But it's good to have other things blooming in the yard so that when the day lily season comes to a screaching halt I'll still have some color showing. Above is a cluster of sulphur cosmos.

  • MondaySunrise

This was the sunrise Monday morning. Believe it or not, it was even prettier when I first opened the blinds and saw it. I quickly ran to get my camera, then turned off the alarm and went out onto the patio to get this shot. But I can't complain . . . it's pretty enough for me.

  • This is for you, Sue.

Yesterday Alice and I went to our monthly Garden Club meeting. For our program we toured one of our member's yard. She has probably the prettiest fish pond I've ever seen in someone's backyard. It looks pretty natural the way it's tucked up in the corner with very tall plants around the back side of it. It has a little waterfall that trickles into the pond and recirculates. Although I'd really love to have a pond like this, I don't have the type yard to accomodate one. My yard is open and sunny and light, where as you need a sort of shady secluded hidden garden sort of yard to pull off one of these.

I promised Sue that I'd post a picture of Jane's pond here on Xanga . . . so here you go, Sue.

This is one of the Digital Nuts photos I submitted this week.  I've been on the computer quite a bit this week bidding on lilies and doing digital nuts. I also spent all afternoon today weeding one section of my flower garden. All afternoon and I only got about 1/5 th of the flower beds weeded. I hadn't realized that were quite that many weeds needing pulling. . . three Home Depot orange buckets full.  I was able to work out so long because it was overcast most of the time. We got about a half inch of rain over night and the garden loved it.
