  •  BackYardSpider

I have ANOTHER guest in my garden. It's a big spider. Anybody know what kind he is? He's spun his web between my rose bush and the fence. The web is about a foot and a half wide by about 2 foot high, and Mr. spider is about 3" long by 2" wide. He's been in the same spot ALL day long. Boy! Is he ever patient.

My lily count is down drastically, so that makes every lily that blooms all the more precious. I had seven lilies blooming in my yard today. Three Stella de Oras, three Black Eyed Stellas and one Hearts Afire.  I wish they would bloom on in to September too.

  • Hi Chris I think I found your spider it's proper name is Argiope aurantia, or more commonly Black and yellow garden spider or writing spider.

I think I'll call it heebie jeebie the spider

  • yes, that is the black and yellow garden spider. It is a beautiful spider. I am not crazy about spiders but this one is very pretty. We have plenty of ugly ones in our yard but every now and then we have one of these beauties!

  • How interesting, Gill. Thanks for giving the URL with all that information.

  • :wave:Hi,  Gill is correct.  I will always try not to bother their work.  They are actually good for your garden.  Thank you for sharing, Sharon

  • I'll head to the link but I'm betting it is a female that did all that work.

  • Wouldn't you know, Gill would be able to come up with the correct ID Johnny on the Spot.
