  • Church at Bibury Court in England

Eternal Sojourner told me to make sure I took pictures of the old graveyards in England when we’re over there.  Here’s a look at a couple of pictures I took on our trip there in 1996. That red stuff on The Bibury Court Hotel was everywhere; kind of like ivy over here . . or kudzu.

Church at Great Rissington in England

The picture above was taken in Great Rissington Church yard in Great Rissington. These old grave stones have sooooo much character.  And I was surprised how much of the church yards are taken up with the cemeteries and how close to the buildings they are set.  I guess when you run out of room your bunch them up.  Another thing that surprised me was how many of the graves where actually INSIDE the church buildings.  Is that weird or what?

Someone’s Driveway . . . I believe it was in Chipping Camden, England

And speaking of weird . . . take a look at what this home owner is using as fence material.  I’m wondering how these gravestones were obtained.  Hummm.

  • I wonder what that red vine is? I knew the English were eccentric! wink Thanks for posting the photos. Very interesting.  :goodjob:Yes, I think it’s very weird to bury people inside buildings like that! :spinning:

  • A wall made of gravestones… oookay!  LOL!!  I know that in Ecuador some of the gravesites are paid for in advance for a certain number of years, and then the body is exhumed and cremated and the site is used for another body.  Fortunately, my grandfathers site was not one of those, and I was able to get it fixed up last summer.

  • I agree, weird fence! Lovely buildings, though.

Thanks for the visit. I’m still waiting to hear back from the interview…

  • re: this

or, rather, he is a friend of mine.
    and how did what go?

  • oh. my bad. i see.

  • I love the red ‘kudzu!’  Thanks for visiting my blog!  Come back anytime!  I’m subscribing to yours… I just love the pictures!   :goodjob:

  • What lovely pictures!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I posted a teeny-tiny update, but I’m afraid to say too much just in case he’s on Xanga (Practically my whole school is, it seems.) But his name is Luke, and I’m very much infatuated with him at the moment :)  So now you know!

  • When were you there? I was just in the UK last week! And I was obsessed with graveyards … but only saw them from windows … I have to go back and do some rubbings …

  • I want to go to England too… :(  but I’m happy you get to go again  :)

  • Really great pictures, the gravestone fence row was a hoot if you can say that about gravestones.  maybe it’s an old family business and a way of advertising.  The red ivy reminds me in a way of the peppers hung to dry in Mexico.  Different but the same vibrant colors.  Anyway, great pictures and verbal trip thru time.

  • Thanks for visiting my blog!  Love the pictures on yours–hopefully I’ll have some good ones myself soon.  We leave for London next Tuesday!   :fun:

  • Beautiful pictures. I love old graveyards too
