  • The Cloister at Ephrata                                    Photo and enhancement by Chris Duffy

This was one of the places that Alice and I went to when we took our trip to the Chesapeake Bay area a couple years ago.  I really enjoyed touring all the old buildings and especially since some of them had the furniture still in them.  These people must have lived pretty austiere lives.  They had no refrigerators, no gas stoves, no radio, and the internet hadn’t even been thought of yet.   Frankly, I don’t think I’d have made a very good pioneer.

  • If you ever come to Ohio, you should go to Adena, the home of Thomas Worthington, he was the governor of Ohio and the home and grounds and furniture are wonderful.  Take a virtual tour, click on this link.  They have a quicktime tour where you can circle the rooms as well.  It’s a nice site.  I loved what I saw at the actual place, it’s been a few years but we are planning on going back.  They had a pipe that was given to the governor from Tecumseh sitting on the mantel and the spring house and barn were awesome to me.  They did know how to do things if they had the help and the tools to do it with.

  •  :nono: On the contrary, I think you would have made a very good pioneer.  wink Know why?   Because you know how to work hard

  • Yeah–I complain about being a “hardy pioneer woman” when I have to get the mail from the mailbox in the rain!

  • Pioneers had hard times, but they also had good times such as quilting bees.  I think that I would have liked the sewing, but not the cooking.

  •  Did I mention, I like the shot (and the enhancement). I got a lot of good pictures there at the Cloisters

  • Your work is so beautiful. I am just learning how to do some of it, and you and your sister were who inspired me. Wonderful pic, and have a great trip!!!

  • I got the same feeling when we visited the Shaker community in Kentucky a few years back. Mike

  • What? No CABLE? I’d die.

  • I would have made a terrible pioneer, I simply have too much stuff…which I am weeding out (I got the packrat gene from both my parents :()

I love your pictures and look forward to my hubby, eventually, showing me how to play with our photoshop stuff!
