Another house with a gate in Lower Slaughter, England Photo & enhancement by Chris Duffy
Here’s an update on the RAT situation. I read the article about RATS that Alice had mentioned in her comment and decided against poisoning as a way to rid my yard of the rodents. I SURE wouldn’t want one to get sick, crawl into some crevice in my house and DIE there. Gosh, the stench would be awful and take a long long time to go away. So I opted for rat traps, and went to ACE hardware and bought three of them. Three rats, three coffins. But then when I got home I couldn’t get it set without it snapping and I was afraid I’d get a finger mangled by it, so (remember hubby is out of town) I called my next door neighbor and asked him if he could come set them. He is such a nice neighbor. He and his son came over and put peanut butter on the traps and set them along the fence in the vacinity of the bird feeder. He said he’d be surprised if I didn’t have at least one of them by morning. I’m really hoping for all three of them, but that might be a little optimistic. We’ll keep you all posted on the rat saga.

 Sure glad it’s not me Christine, I would be screaming to beat the band and probably standing on chairs, that’s what I did we a snake crawled in through our air conditioner once. Good luck with your rodent resistance. :(
Eeeewww rats!! we’ve had mice and I had to catch them because my cat wouldn’t (he’s really not much use). We’ve poisoned them in the garage, but I don’t like poisoning them for fear that the dog will eat them (eeewww again!) and get sick…I know the cat won’t eat them! Good luck getting rid of them!
Those wonderful homes, I wonder if there is anyone of them, even those you may have passed up that wouldn’t be quite something to see or live in. Like a place of the past, a place you can go to dream of a better time, horses in the fields and stables and dogs by the pack to hunt with and carriages to go to town in. That would be my kind of life but I would like to keep the running water and sanitation systems. Other than those two things, (whoops) I guess I would hate to give up a gas stove, that would be nice but I could live with candles and lanterns and gas lights in the streets and go to bed at dark and get up with the chickens. I know there are other things, hospitals for the sick and libraries but I think they had some pretty good libraries and we could still advance them with continued writing by good authors. There had to be a lot of things if we could combine the good from the past with the good from today and get kids back outside to play instead of here at the computer where us old folks should be (LOL). Oh well, I know a combination of good things could make one heck of a place to live. They were pretty smart back when in a lot of things they did.
Here’s hoping for a quick painless death for all the rats in your yard.
