  • House in Bourton on the Water                      Photo and enhancement by Chris Duffy

Lest you think that every house in the Cotswolds district of England is an adorable enchanted cottage, I offer this picture of a “fixer upper” that’s being worked on in Bourton on the Water.  It looks like it’s straight out of an Alfred Hitchcox movie set.  But I’m sure with enough time and money, it too will take it’s place as one of the delightful English cottages being rented out to tourists.

  • At one time I was working in Banbury and I was going to buy a share in a converted manor house in Southam, near Leamington Spa. It was so beautiful but… so expensive.  The idea though of living in a magnificent old country house had me going for a while. This house reminded me of it, but obviously its smaller. It must look beautiful in the summer covered in the Russian ivy.

  • I’ve missed all this good stuff these past few days.  Will go back and check it all out but won’t bore you with back comments.  I’d take this house in a minute if I could.  I like it already.  :)

  • I’ve always called it Russian Ivy, I don’t know what it is called botanically. I don’t thin kits a true ivy (hedera helix) which is an evergreen.  I am pretty sure its the same thing as virginia creeper  but I might be wrong.  It goes a beautiful red in autumn and is bare as in the pic above in winter. This is a nice pic.  Half way down the house in your pic is wisteria I think.

  • Could be haunted? That would raise the rent to gullible Americans like me!

  • Picture sure doesn’t look like a ‘fixer upper’ as I know them.  wink

Might you be able to tell me why when I click on the picture it starts to load large and then finishes small? Everywhere I do that this happens.

  • Even in its state of disrepair, this house is beautiful.

  • I would take this house in a minute! I loved Bourton-on-the-Water, it was one of my most favorite places of all the places I got to in England.
