My husband and I have been baby sitting for the last two weeks . . . or perhaps I should say tomato sitting, but that sounds weird. Our next door neighbors went to London on a business/vacation trip and asked us to baby sit their tomato plant while they’re gone. We’ve been promised some tomatoes if we do our job right and keep the plant alive. Mostly we’re just supposed to give it a spot in the yard that gets sunlight, but not ALL DAY sunlight. Done. Then we’re supposed to give it a drink of water once a day, but with all the rain we’ve gotten lately, we’ve only had to water it two times. Tomorrow young Mr. Tomato goes back home to his mommy and daddy. Then he’s their baby again. My hubby wants GREEN tomatoes though, not red ripe ones. Visions of fried green tomatoes are dancing around in his head.

Tomato sitting?! LOL. I’ve always wanted to know how to make fried green tomatoes. They sound so good!! Do you have a recipe?
This is like a an episode of a slightly bizarre, very mannered English sitcom called. ‘The Good Life’.
ROFLOL My neighbor had to “Tomato sit” for me when the heirloom tomatoes I ordered arrived while we were on vacation. They are growing well and blooming now. :giggle:
My Favorite…. Fried Green Tomatoes
Some people fry them too thin for me, I like mine thick enough not to completely fall apart when they are cooked. Also, some people use flour only to bread them or use corn meal only. I was taught that a mixture of both makes is best. What’s your recipe Christine? What do you fix to go with them? My family thinks I make the best skillet cornbread ever  Wanna trade helpful hints?
I just LOVE fried green tomatoes. YUMMY!
:giggle: I hope you did a good job and that there will be home grown tomatoes in your future. Tell me when the green ones are all fried and ready… I’ll be right over. :sunny: I always rolled them in flour, then egg and then breadcrumbs the way we did morel mushrooms, but I’ve heard that cornmeal is really the southern way to fry them. Next time I’m going to try that — maybe mixed with flour. However since we moved, I no longer have a neighbor who supplies me with green tomatoes.
i know where u live
jk
I love tomatoes and have a neighbor who brings some over when his are ripe. I think your babysitting job sounds like one of the best kept secrets of the ages and a job I wouldn’t mind having.
Have a terrific 4th of July and stay safe.
I :heartbeat: fried green tomatoes! I even Loved the movie! I’ve sat with house plants, but never a tomaot plant.
Fried green tomatoes are sooo good! I like bacon and tomato sandwiches, too.
…first potato and then tomato – you must be going through a food phase right now. However, the cycle seems to be improving. The tomato definitely fared better than the poor potato. :fun:

…don’t know if I’ll be moving every year, just when a place becomes stale. If my environment isn’t feeding me why should keep trying to cook?
PS:…I’ve heard of indenture before but over a potato??? :spinning: M
:sunny: Tomato sitting…at least it doesn’t chew the furniture, or have to be walked! :fun:
I do hope you shared your recipe with those asking for it. In my book they are right up there with tomatos and gravy. love
