  • Wildlife Preserve in Chesapeake area                     Photo / enhancement by Chris Duffy

I had the weirdest thing happen last night on my computer.  I finally got around to answering “yes” to the question about whether I wanted to make restore CD’s for my new system.  It took me through a couple more screens and then told me that I had the option of making 7 CDs or 1 DVD, and since it said it could take up to 30 minutes per CD, I chose the DVD route.  Well, then I had to make a quick trip to Wally World and get some DVDs.  When I got back I put a blank DVD in the DVD burner drawer and told it to burn the files onto it.  Well, the CD drawer kept popping open like it expected me to put in a CD instead of a DVD.  I’d close the CD drawer and it’d pop open again.  So I tried putting the DVD in the CD drawer and that just flat didn’t work either.  So I had to abort the whole exercise and now I have no idea how I’ll ever get them made, because the instructions said that once you quit the program you can only start back where you left off, and there is no backing up to change my option to CDs rather than DVDs.  So, I guess I just hope and pray that my computer never needs to be “restored” to its ”from the box” condition.   Gee, I wish I was more hardware savvy.

  • Oh that picture is so pretty. I want to go to the beach. I think we might take a day trip next week or the week after, to Rehoboth, Delaware.

I get so frustrated with the computer. I make my husband “fix” everything, but of course then I don’t always learn what the problem is. Maybe if I took a few computer classes somewhere….

  • I love your enhanced beach picture!  It looks like it is printed on material.  When my husband’s computer crashed this summer, he had to call HP and order back-up disks.  Of course, he lost all the data that he had stored on it.  I don’t think that we’ve made a back-up of my new computer.  Hmmm, I guess we should do that.  My new computer has a dvd and a cd writer.  I guess if it gives me a choice like yours did, I should just choose cd.

  •  :sunny: lovely photo…I have done some very strange things on this computer…luckily my husband has, so far, rescued me

  • I wish I were more savvy, as well.   I finally got my back up done… and had another round with the tech guys… so now we see if it is fixed. He was sure… I’m not. The next hour or so will tell the tale.

  • Ain’t PC’s great? Mike

  • You should be able to go into your CD burning program and make back ups of your files and programs WITHOUT the special invitation you spoke of. Backing up important files can be done at any time. I know those official computer back up Restore programs can be so frustrating. I make it a point to burn CD back ups of My Documents every month or so. As for everything else, i.e. programs, games, etc. I have those backed up as soon as I install them, and keep them handy. Backing up is something EVERYONE should do regularly. Trust me, I have lost data due to being lazy too many times.

If you are running Windows XP, visit Gibson Research Corporation, also known as grc.com and check out their XP patches. The downloads are free, come with easy to understand instructions, and they will tell you if you need it or not. They also have great programs for other OS, like 98SE, 2000, etc. All very small programs, and did I mention they were free?

  • I love that picture! I have gotten the free trial of ProPaint 8 and would love to learn some of what you do! Can you give me any tips….I’m afraid that I’m in over my head..lol.

  • Just saying hi.You are talking  into the wild blue yonder as far as I’m concerned , but I love you anyway . mom

  • What do you use to enhance your photos? I down loaded this free trial version so there is no book to read from cover to cover :( I have tried some things, but none of them has given me the water color look of your photos that I want to learn to do. I am open for any and all suggestions!

  • They don’t come as un-savy as I am so I’d be no help.

I’d like to see the original of the picture. I like the clear sharp of the wildflowers and even the stark of the one before.
