War Eagle, Ark. Photo and enhancement by Chris Duffy
This is the picture I kept trying to post last night but never succeeded. Lots of my computer problems can be solved by merely turning off the computer and letting it rest over night. Somehow magically overnight someone else has solved the problem for me. So that’s what I tried last night and behold . . . it worked.
I bought a crock pot a month or so ago and am still trying to get the hang of cooking with it. I think I might try turning it on LOW next time, because my first several experiments have all turned out over cooked. The first experiment was not only overcooked, you might even call it burned. I really think this could be a wonderful thing if I ever do figure out the whole timing and temperature thing. Yesterday I cooked a brisket and I had to cut the whole outside layer off and pitch it and keep just the inside part. That’s certainly not very economical. Today I’m trying butter beans and I’ve turned them on LOW, so wish me luck.
Thought of the day: Women over 50 don’t have babies because they would put them down and forget where they left them.

Super photo. Lots of people had problems uploading photos yesterday, I saw it on Nanny and on FreekyCheek as well. I’m glad things are back to normal and none of us suffered meltdown while waiting.
Not sure I would forget the baby but I have a lot of problems remembering where my shoes are !!!
Regards,
I forget where my glasses are!
Lot of liquid helps, but you probably knew that. :)
The photo is absolutely beautiful… goodness, I could sit by that little river for a while…
Hahaha, about your crockpot….sounds like my kind of cooking results with new stuff… I am lucky I have a very patient and loving family. they put up with a lot of funny stuff from me… good luck practicing and getting it right. I gave my crock pot away…don’t know why.
Funny thought. I am not 50 yet and I lose stuff… too much brain clutter.
That is such a beautiful picture. Maybe I need to go sit in a setting like that to drag me out of my funk. Crock Pots are grand–you’ll love yours when you get the hang of it.
When you get the hang of a crock pot, I may get one and you can give me the benefit of your experience. The picture brings back some very pleasant memories. I can almost taste the pecan cobbler ala mode we ate on the other side of that river at the mill.
Oprah had her cook named Rosie that she paid big bucks to cook her meals for her. I named my crockpot “Rosie”. That’s the closest I’ll ever get. But, once you get the hang of it, you will love to come home to the aroma of dinner already cooked for you.
What baby? Â :lol:Â :lol:Â
Great photo.
I think spouse turns it on High until it gets to temp, then turns it to low.

Ah, the once-lowly crock pot. There are a few hard and simple rules to crock pot cooking, but I don’t know them. All I can tell you is that you need to keep the food moist, or just plain sitting in water/broth. Start at high until you have reached the desired temp, then turn it down to low. Keep it on low until food is done, try to avoid removing the lid or you’ll lose your heat. Crock pots are for long SLOW cooking. Don’t try to cook pasta in them. I found that out the HARD way. Crock pots are great for tough cuts of meat and some wild game. I hope this helps.
Where have you been?I haven’t blogged because I have not been up to par :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:
Directions with my crock pot said do the first hour on high then the rest of the time on low. Never burned a thing in it.
