Flowers at Lady Bird Johnson Gardens in Austin, TX                        Photos by Chris Duffy

Some of the flowers Alice and I saw at the Lady Bird Johnson Gardens in Austin, TX on our recent “sister trip” to the Texas Hill Country.  I ended up buying some of the purple Asters in the lower right picture for my own garden.  Can you guess what plant family the purple thistle like plants are related to?  Of all things, it’s the carrot family . . . who would have guessed it?  But that’s what our horticulturalist told us.

We have out of town company coming in tonight, all the way from Seattle, for a long week end so I probably won’t get a chance to blog for a few days.  We usually stay up way too late when Barney and Mary are here and we laugh enough for a whole year.  They are a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to the visit.

Note: If you want a closer look at any of the pictures, just click on the picture and then on the F11 key.

  • Such pretty pictures! Glad your trip was a fun one.

  • I love purple asters. I just got some a month ago. They are lovely. All of these photos are beautiful. Makes me feel like working in the yard. It is raining today.
    Nice trip you two had.

  • Did you get your asters planted yet? If you haven’t, try to do it as soon as Barney and Mary go because you want them to have a few weeks to get established before winter sets in.

I like the quote. Never heard it before.

    Enjoy your visit.

  • These flowers are beautiful!  That is a great quote, too! :sunny:

  •  :goodjob: those are so wonderful

  • If ever I would have any money, I’d have someone come in to help me with a garden.  I think gardens should be top priority in anyone’s life.  I just told someone I envied their gardens and gardening abilities and I’ll repeat that here.  Lovely photos.

  • Love those asters.  Bet they will look beautiful in your garden.  Enjoy your visit with your friends.  What is the saying–Friends are the flowers in our garden of life.  Appropriate, right?

  • Those purple flowers are so pretty, I can see why you wanted them for your own grden.
    Love that quote.

  • Got caught up before I hit the sack. You neglected to mention that the River Walk wasn’t as clear as the other places of water you snapped.

  •  …love the “carrot” thistle. Thanks for informing us of flower’s name/family. Did your asters hold up during the expedition?  :love:MuSe

  • PS: Lovely quote, marvelous thought. M
