Lost Maples State Natural Area is a combination of steep, rugged limestone canyons, springs, plateau grasslands, wooded slopes and clear streams located about 70 miles northwest of San Antonio and 60 miles southwest of Fredericksburg, Texas.

The clear waters of the Sabinal River flow past colorful canyon stands of bigtooth maples and canyon maples, which are an outstanding feature in Lost Maples State Natural Area.
Although Alice and I were there too early to see the fall colors, it was a ruggedly beautiful place, and I can only imagine how beautiful it must be a little later in the season . . . actually right about now. We’ll have to go back some year after the colors have changed and I bet it’ll seem like an entirely different place.

  • Ooooh these are beautiful.
What an amazing spot! Those stones are tempting me…
I collect rocks… I dont know why, I just do.
This looks like an absolutely lovely area.
    Thanks for sharing these.

  • I bet it is absolutely beautiful now with the leaves changing.  :sunny:

  • The clear stream just speaks to me…BTW, hope you don’t mind….Alice is “lending” you to me as an honorary sister. She feels like, since I don’t have one of my own, you can fill in the void. Of course, both of you would be even better! Think I can work my way into the family in a cyber sense?

    Love, your “little” sister, Winnie

P.S. Did I mention the five nieces and nephews? ROFL My group is 29, 27, 21, 8 & 4. No typos, just a lot of explaining to do!!!

  • Lost Maples State Natural Area is beautiful!  I bet it is even better when the leaves are changing, but you took some great shots! :goodjob:
