Well, I have to say I was a little dissappointed last night.  I had been waiting for more than two weeks to get pictures of the lunar eclipse, the so called “Blood Moon”.  It was a total eclipse and for some reason, due to the atmosphere, it appears orangish and thus the name. But, alas we had cloud cover.  I spent last night going outside every 10 minutes to see if the clouds were still obscuring my view.  I did manage to get 10 pictures of the moon, and these are the two best ones.  One was just as the eclipse was beginning . . . as well as the cloud cover moving in . . . . and the other was more than an hour later when I caught the moon peeping through a hole in the cloud cover.  This was taken with my camera on the next to the best setting for pictures (there was not room on my memory card to take one at the very best setting)   and with it zoomed all the way.  What amazes me is that the moon didn’t look this orangish, at least not to the naked eye.  But all of the later pictures I took came out this pretty orangish color.

Soon as the evening shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly to the listening earth
Repeats the story of her birth.

  • At least you stayed up to watch it. Stupid me, I forgot all about it and went to bed. Missed the whole darned thing. :(

  • That is just about the point where the clouds moved in from where we were watching.

  • We had to watch between the clouds too.
OOOO  :eek:that first shot looks kinda Halloweeny!
    Good photos! Thanks!

  • We saw the first of it, then the clouds moved in here, too.  I went to bed, but got back up about 11 and found that the clouds had moved on.  It appeared red in my photos, but I think your camera had a better zoom than mine. :goodjob:

  • The last lunar eclipse I saw (not too long ago) was just after nightfall and the moon was really a flaming ball. I had expected the same last night, but it was kind of a big dull orange-red ball. It was cloudy until 11 by which time the moon was more or less overhead so now I have a crick in my neck from watching it

  • I am so glad you got those pics. I did  not get outside this time to see the moon rise.Wait until I tell Mildred, she will be happy that you saw it and took the pictures. :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:Mom

  •  :spinning: I missed to completely

  • Love your moons. It is so hard for me to believe you had color when I didn’t. I sat and watched it all night as it covered. You can see my feeble attempts with an automatic camera – in my entry. All my pictures are over at http://journalives.com/chattering/oct28.htm

To the naked eye, well OK with binoculars, I got a yellowish cast.

  • I took pictures last year of the eclipse.  They turned out pretty much like yours–except most were blurry because I was too lazy to hunt down the tripod.  This year it was cloudy.

  • :goodjob: Terrific pictures! Thanks for sharing them!
