  • Ice Cream Shop in Eureka Springs, AR . . . . Photo/enhancement by Chris Duffy

I can’t remember whether or not I’ve ever posted this picture before, and frankly, I’m too lazy to go backwards in my blogs to find out.  It’s a little ice cream shop Alice and I ran across in Eureka Springs when we went to Arkansas for our “sister trip” in 2003.  It was raining and we needed a place to get in out of the weather . . . and besides, they boasted in their window about their scrumptous Apple Dumplings . . . and we just had to try them.  They were great.

This was my first day back at work and it took me nearly all day to get through all the emails that came in while I was off . . . not just reading them, but actually doing what the emails asked me to do.  Which kind of ticked me off, because the whole rationale behind us closing down and all taking vacation at the same time is that no one has to play “catch-up” when they get back to work, because supposedly EVERYONE in the company is off and not writing emails.  But I know of at least 116 people who were NOT laying off the emails while we were off.  Bless their pointed little heads.

One of the ladies in our building took the two weeks before Christmas off as vacation so she was off for 3 weeks and had over 1500 emails when she got back today.  Now THAT’S a headache.  One of my bosses lives really close to the office (less than a mile) and he said he came in almost every week day around 6 AM and worked until 8:30 AM and then headed home just as his family was getting up.  What dedication!  But he says he’s pretty much caught up now.

  • t4tots and I marvel and your digital enhancement of photographs.  One of Alice’s recent blogs spoke of the purist who prefer only what the lens captures…but I agree with both of you that a lot of interest and artistic expression is added with your playing with the photos.  I never seem to get enough of your images.  This ice cream shop is so cute.

  • IRT your sister’s book. Would your mother read it? My mother didn’t read mine. I would have the same fear about my novel but I doubt she’d read that either. (Yes, this irritates me somewhat.)

Just delete all the emails without reading them. If it’s important, they’ll email you again.

  • I can almost taste the apple dumpling ala mode.   :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat: We are having freezing rain and sleet today… are you?

  • That looks like a fun place to eat.  I am sure that you enjoyed it.  I enjoy both yours and Alice’s photographs.  Thanks for sharing.

  • My husbands work “shuts down” between Christmas and New Years, which means that only the engineers are in working. This is the first year that he only went into work once during the break, and didn’t hide in the basement working from home all break (he did keep up with email). He’s one who, usually, takes work with him on vacation, weekends etc etc. My favorite places are anywhere where there’s no internet access and the cel phones don’t work!

I love the picture!! Apple dumplings…yum!

  • I never saw the pic of the ice cream parlor. That’s what we used to call them. One of my fondest memories is Going with my grandma to get an ice cream soda once a month. She was a Civil War  widow and drew a pension as such, and it was my job to ride on the street car and look out for her and that was my reward ! :heartbeat:Mom

  • That ice cream shop looks delightful!  The apple dumplings sound good, too.

Sometimes emails can be a real pain.  Starting back to school, we had dozens of emails from our principals about testing, faculty meetings, special training sessions, etc.

  • I don’t remember seeing the picture. Then again I don’t remember what I go from one room to another for.

We had a coke business like that years ago and I miss the place. It closed up and opened a burger joint near the airport.

How much of the email was spam?

  • Apple dumplings – Yummy!! have not had them in so many years I can hardly remember, but they do sound delicious.
