Believe it or not, I have Stella deOras blooming today . . . November 4th. That's incredible. And, I still have buds waiting their turn to bloom. And tomorrow they say we will have all the ingredients necessary to spawn tornadoes. This is NOVEMBER.

I also have a number of other flowers still blooming. Here's a sampling.

  • Yesterday I went out to lunch with my sister and her husband, as I often do on Fridays. We went to Louie's where I was very tempted to order their wonderful french fried green beans (you gotta try them - they're great) . . . but I resisted. As we were leaving, I passed the booth next to ours where a man and his young son were seated and sharing a LARGE order of  the delicious fried green beans. They looked soooooooo good, and I gave the dad a thumbs up and said, "Fried green beans . . . GREAT choice!"  The look on the dad's face was not what I expected; instead it was a look of  "NOW look what you've done?" as the little boy looked at his dad incredulously and said, "You mean these are GREEN BEANS?!?!?!"       OOPS . . . sorry, dad.

Boy, was I ever surprised when I started taking pictures of what's been blooming in my yard this week. I wouldn't  have thought that I had that many different kinds of flowers still blooming in my yard this late, but it's true.  These were all actually blooming in my front or back yard this week.  I feel very blessed. Sometimes I go out on my back patio and just sit there and soak up all the beauty I can, and it's all in my own yard.

You can see a close up of any of these by just clicking on the picture.

  • Spider86

Well, I'm wondering if the spider is very patient . . . or just dead. He's not moved in 4 days. Tomorrow if he's still in the same position, I may just poke something in his web just enough to make him move . . . if he's alive.

UPDATE: To answer Gill's question . . . He scampered to the corner of his web when I stuck a flower right next to him. I'm glad he's alive and not dead.

  •  BackYardSpider

I have ANOTHER guest in my garden. It's a big spider. Anybody know what kind he is? He's spun his web between my rose bush and the fence. The web is about a foot and a half wide by about 2 foot high, and Mr. spider is about 3" long by 2" wide. He's been in the same spot ALL day long. Boy! Is he ever patient.

StellaDeOra Hearts Afire Black Eyed Stella StellaDeOras-2

My lily count is down drastically, so that makes every lily that blooms all the more precious. I had seven lilies blooming in my yard today. Three Stella de Oras, three Black Eyed Stellas and one Hearts Afire.  I wish they would bloom on in to September too.

  • Rainbow8-24-08

We got a beautiful rainbow this evening, but only about 20 raindrops on the windshield. Perhaps we'll get a little better rain later on tonight, but I kind of doubt it.

No new evidence in my yard of the mole today, but there was a bit in my next door neighbor's yard. Now if he'll just stay over there.

  • JolyeneNicole62

One of my Jolyene Nicole lilies has started reblooming, and after 4 1/2" of rain (over a week and a half) followed by a week of just plain gorgeous weather it was trying to outdo itself. This bloom opened up yesterday and it was slightly over 7" across. It was gigantic . . . at least for a Jolyene Nicole. And it has 3 more buds waiting their turn to bloom.

I have a mole in my back yard and I had hoped that he had finally moved on to my neighbor's yard, but I saw evidence today that he's still in MY yard. I can tell you this . . . I do NOT like him. He's fiarly destructive and I need to convince him to go tunnel elsewhere.

This is a picture that I did for this week's Digital Nuts exercise.

I got a lot done in the yard today. I have three small yellow rose bushes that were surrounded with Purple Homestead Verbena. Today I pulled out all the Verbena around those rose bushes because it was growing too tall and smothering the roses. I hope they can "breathe" now, because lots of the branches were bare. They need to fill out with lots of new leaves.

We had a break yesterday from the extreme heat, but . . . it's back!

  • Hostas

Oh my. On my recent blog about what was blooming in my yard at the time . . . I completely overlooked the hostas on the north side of my house. How did I manage that?

It's been pretty hot here in Oklahoma . . . yesterday it got up to 105. We really could use some rain.  The day lily season is now winding down, but I do still have a few things blooming, only about a fourth of which are day lilies.  But it's good to have other things blooming in the yard so that when the day lily season comes to a screaching halt I'll still have some color showing. Above is a cluster of sulphur cosmos.
