This was the sunrise Monday morning. Believe it or not, it was even prettier when I first opened the blinds and saw it. I quickly ran to get my camera, then turned off the alarm and went out onto the patio to get this shot. But I can't complain . . . it's pretty enough for me.

This is for you, Sue.
Yesterday Alice and I went to our monthly Garden Club meeting. For our program we toured one of our member's yard. She has probably the prettiest fish pond I've ever seen in someone's backyard. It looks pretty natural the way it's tucked up in the corner with very tall plants around the back side of it. It has a little waterfall that trickles into the pond and recirculates. Although I'd really love to have a pond like this, I don't have the type yard to accomodate one. My yard is open and sunny and light, where as you need a sort of shady secluded hidden garden sort of yard to pull off one of these.
I promised Sue that I'd post a picture of Jane's pond here on Xanga . . . so here you go, Sue.

This is one of the Digital Nuts photos I submitted this week. I've been on the computer quite a bit this week bidding on lilies and doing digital nuts. I also spent all afternoon today weeding one section of my flower garden. All afternoon and I only got about 1/5 th of the flower beds weeded. I hadn't realized that were quite that many weeds needing pulling. . . three Home Depot orange buckets full. I was able to work out so long because it was overcast most of the time. We got about a half inch of rain over night and the garden loved it.

As I said before, I pulled out all the Gaillardia from my flower beds and am intending to replace them with the following lilies . . . that is if I can find them on the Lily Auction site.
Coyote Moon Chicago Cherry Brookwood Early On Bright Sunset
Bonanza Art Gallery Fringe Desperado Love Edith Sliger
Fooled Me Ponca Brave Wild Horses
Now, if I can't find the above lilies on the auction site, here are pictures of the "Plan B" list of lilies. I might substitute some of these for any of the above flowers I can't find. They are all available on the Lily Auction.
Aztec Headdress Barbarian Princess Black Eyed Stella Broadway Raves
Country Cavalier Crepe Eyed Ruffles Destined To See Diamond In The Rough
Fancy Face HillBilly Heart IF Judith
Just Kiss Me Lee Bea Orange Crush Lil Red Wagon Open My Eyes
Pat Garrity Persian Adventure Pixie Pagentry Rainbow Candy
Real Deal Roses In Snow Royal Jester Something Bold

Do you see a problem looming on the horizon? How to choose which ones to pick and which ones not to pick.

Oh Dear . . .
And to think that last year I swore I wouldn't plant another thing. I've gone and ordered these two lilies. They won't be delivered until the fall so maybe I'll be in the mood to plant again. I'm watching for 11 other ones on "The Lily Auction" that I want to fill in the spots that were left when I pulled up all the Gaillardia. I do hope I find the other 11, but if not I found 46 other beauties that are ever bit as pretty as the 11 I'm searching for, so it won't be a problem filling the slots. The problem will be (if it comes to that) of deciding which of the 46 to choose and which to leave unchosen.
Alice warned me this might happen if the "Lily Bug" bit me. . . and I believe I have been well and truely bitten by said bug.

This is another of the "Digital Nuts" pictures from this week. Each Wednesday we're given seven new digital pictures and we all try our hand at enhancing it and then list the different tools that we used in creating the end result. I really liked this one.
I pulled out all of the gaillardia from my flower beds. It took me two days and I'm really glad I did it. They were really looking ratty. Last year they looked great all spring and summer long, but this year they looked good for about a month and then their appearance really went down hill. . . fast. Not only were they all seedy, but they were so heavy that they were laying down. They were either dragging down the other plants around them, or they were completely shading out or hiding other plants. So, out they went. The yard looks so much neater and tidier now. I think I'll get some lilies to fill those spots.

For the most part I'm thrilled with my garden. I love going out in the morning to see what new flowers are waiting for me. I even enjoy deadheading . . . removing the spent blossoms. But I don't really enjoy the weeding very much, however that's only because with my back it's painful leaning over, and with my knee it's still a little painful when I get down on my knees. Right now I'm using a padded kneeler with extra padding . . . a beach towel wrapped around three layers of bubble wrap. So I do some leaning over and some weeding on my knees.
Below is a quick stroll through my garden today . . well maybe not so quick. Honestly, these were ALL blooming in my yard today. I took every picture this morning. . . and my yard is definately not as large as the impression this many flowers might give. Just a normal sized lot CROWDED with lots of flowers.

We got almost 3 inches of rain over night last night and when I went out into the yard this morning all the blooms were rather water logged and I wouldn't have given a plug nickle for any of them turning out OK, but most of them had "dried out" and were beautiful by late this afternoon. We can sure use the rain, so that's a really good thing.
I planted the plants that I bought at our Garden Club plant sale this past week end, and it was easy because the soil was soaked. Later this week I think I'll dig up all the Gaillardia that are looking so sickly in my yard. Who knows why they do, but they do, so as far as I'm concerned . . . they're outta here. Alice is so right about gardening . . . it's all trial and error.

I came home this afternoon to find my yellow hibiscus had bloomed. Alice and I are spending about 4 hours a day at mom's apartment going through her papers and cleaning out her refrigerator. Believe it or not, after two 4 hour days we have only gone through 4 drawers of paperwork. It's going so slowly because at the same time we're cleaning out, we're also hunting for certain things, so you can't just take a drawer and dump it. You have to look at each piece of paper to see if you need to keep it. We'll make it though, slowly but surely.

As you may already be aware from reading Alice's Xanga site (and mom's too), our mother died Wednesday evening of an apparent heart attack. Alice was there with her and she's pretty sure that mom didn't feel anything past the first 15 seconds or so, which I'm so thankful for. You know, she was adamant that she did NOT EVER want to go to a nursing home. And that's what she feared the most would happen if she had to go to the hospital . . . that she wouldn't be allowed to go back home to Superbia; that they'd make her go to a nursing home after the hospital. She said many times that she wanted to die AT Superbia. And I'm glad for her sake that she didn't have to go to a nursing home. The funeral is tomorrow and these are the flowers that Alice and I picked out for her casket. It isn't exactly like the one they had pictured in the book, because we made a few changes to it. It was supposed to have gladiolus in it, but mom had left specific instructions that she wanted NO gladiolus in her arrangement. We also added the Star Gazer lilies instead of daisies. We're pleased with how it turned out.
